If it’s Thursday it must be Sea Lions. . .
The rain finally let this morning after dropping another inch or so overnight, but it was nice and sunny when I left about 10am to visit a client in Pasadena.
I finished up with Tricia about 12:45 and then had to come back to the rig to get my phone that I’d left at home this morning. Without it I couldn’t call my next client.
I dropped off Barbara’s laptop at her office on NASA Parkway and then headed over to another clients for a while, finally getting back home about 4:30pm.
And here I thought I was supposed to be retired!
After resting up with a short nap, Jan and I met Chris and Linda at Mario’s Pizza up in Seabrook about 5 miles north of here. We’ve eaten there a couple of times and it’s always good. But, unfortunately, Miss Piper couldn’t be with us since she had to work.
After a long day, we finally got back to the rig about 7:45pm.
Luckily, I don’t have anything scheduled for tomorrow so far, so maybe it will be a quiet day for a change.
Since nothing much happen today, I thought I’d repost some of our travels up US101 this past May.
Sea Lions and Sea Food…

Just what I wanted to see when I got up this morning – Rain.
Few things are more fun than trying to get ready to roll while you’re getting soaking wet.
But I guess it’s about time we saw some actual northwestern rainy weather. We’ve actually have very little rain since we hit the west coast.
Into every life, and all that.
We left Midway RV Park about 8 am, earlier than normal, because we wanted to stop and see the Sea Lion Cave just north of Florence, OR.
We got there about 10 am and found easy parking for our rig. But then we had a mad dash across the street to the entrance, trying to dodge cars zooming by on US101.
But it was all worth the trip. The cave was really great!
The Sea Lion Cave was discovered in 1880 and opened as a tourist attraction in 1932 when US101 was still only a gravel road.
And by the mid 50’s it was still going strong. Don’t you just love those car colors.
This pic, from the observation deck shows you the kind of weather we had today.
We had about a 100 yard walk along the trail leading to the elevator.
We took the 200 foot elevator down to the sea lion cave and looked out into what is billed as the largest sea cave in the world.
And there were sea lions everywhere. Along the walls, on the rocks, in the water, all over.
The other end of the cave looks out over the cormorant rookery, and what is called “The Most Photographed Lighthouse in the World", the Heceta Lighthouse.
Back on the surface we looked out over the other side of the cave.
We arrived at Circle Creek RV Park just south of Seaside OR about 2:15 pm.
Around 3:30, after we got set up, we headed back down the road about 7 miles to eat at Mo’s Seafood, a place that Nick Russell had recommended.
And, as usual, Nick’s recommendation was dead on. It was great. Jan had a Seafood Platter with Clam Chowder, and I had a bowl of Oyster Stew and a Blackened Cod Fish Sandwich. Hmmm, Hmmm, Good.
Tomorrow, we only have a 105 mile run to Westport, WA, so we’ll probably go out to breakfast and drive around a little before we leave.
We’ll be in Westport for 3 nights catching up with our friends, Al and Adrianne Cox, who we first met in Fairbanks, AK in 2008.
More tomorrow…

Rain, Rain, Rain . . .
It was raining when we left rig about 10:30am and it pretty much rained all day.
Whoopee!
On our way we stopped by Chris and Linda’s to give Linda some papers I had printed out for them. Then it was off to drop Jan off at Brandi’s. They were going to do a Girl’s Day Out of lunch and shopping.
After leaving the girls, I headed over to Discount Tire to let them take a look at my slow leak. They put the tire in the water tank and couldn’t find a leak. But to be on the safe side, they broke the tire down, lubricated the bead, replaced the valve stem, and put it all back together. Now I’ll just have to see.
Leaving Discount Tire, I stopped by a client’s office to work on a software problem. It’s beginning to look like I’m going to have to write a new program to fix their problem. I think they’ve finally exceeded the capabilities of their old one.
Later I headed down the road for lunch at Chili’s, and then it was back to Home Depot to get the parts I need to install the external check valve in my water pump line.
Finally, it was back to Brandi’s to wait for she and Jan get back from shopping.
Hope I still have some money left.
Leaving Brandi’s we stopped off at Kroger’s for gas and then it was home for the rest of the rainy evening.
About 5:30pm I made a pot of hazelnut coffee, and we just sat around and enjoyed the evening.
Really nice!
