Landon is Scary . . .

I was up at about 8:45 this morning with further confirmation of something I already knew.

I don’t sleep well when Jan’s not here. She spent the night at Brandi’s last night taking care of Landon while Brandi and Lowell spent New Year’s Eve with friends up in Katy, while I came back to the rig for the night. Which I spent tossing and turning.

About 9:30 I headed back over to Brandi’s to pick up Jan and Landon for breakfast at the Egg and I, one of our favorite local places.

And this is where Landon gets scary . . . scary smart, that is.

While we were waiting for a table, Jan was sitting on a small bench with Landon standing beside her. I was standing in front of him so he couldn’t fall, going through my pockets looking for quarters for the newspaper machine, when I dropped a quarter that rolled all the way under the bench.

Facing the prospect of getting down on my hands and knees and crawling under the bench (Hey, it was a whole quarter and I’m cheap).

Jokingly, I picked up Landon and put him on the floor, telling to crawl under the bench and get the quarter. He looked up at me, dropped to his knees and crawled under the bench. A couple of seconds later, he popped back out, stood up and handed me the quarter clutched in his little fingers with a big grin on his face.

I was absolutely dumbfounded. How did he know what a quarter was, much less the concept of crawling under the bench and getting it?

I didn’t point at it or anything, Just told him.

That is one amazing little boy, not just because he’s my grandson, of course.

And of course how better to cap off a moment of brilliance with a rousing game of Peek-A-Boo.

As before, Landon ate all of his Mickey Mouse pancake,

and then fell asleep before we even got out of the parking lot on the way home, with his nap continuing at home for the next couple of hours.

Landon Sleeping 2

Brandi and Lowell got home about 2pm so Jan and I headed out a little later, stopping off at a client’s before heading back to the rig.

Getting home, the first thing Jan and I did was to take a nap. Because she was always listening out for Landon, she didn’t sleep much better than I did last night.

Once home, neither of us felt like going back out, so we had our leftover Chinese from King Food the other night. Just as good as the first time around.

All in all, a good start to the New Year.

Six Continents Down, One to Go . . .

or Happy New Year!

After coffee, our day started this morning when we headed over to Brandi’s about 12:30 so we could Landon-sit while she and Lowell headed up to Katy to celebrate New Year’s with some friends.

On our way we stopped by our friend’s Bob & Maria to drop off some of Jan’s Christmas cookies and talk for a few minutes. We made a date to meet up at King Food tonight for supper, and then headed on over to Brandi’s.

As soon as Brandi and Lowell left and Jan got settled in with Landon, I drove over to Fry’s Electronics to pick up the two new computers for my client.

I ended up getting him a pair of Acer AM3450-UR30P’s and got a great price on them.

Acer AM3450

They come with an AMD Quad-Core 3.60 GHz CPU, 6 GB of RAM, a 1 TB Hard Drive, 2 USB 3.0 ports and 12 USB 2.0 ports. And unusual for a desktop machine, it has built-in WiFi.

I also got an additional 8 GB of RAM to bump each one up to 10 GB total.

I’ll be getting each one of these set up and installed over the next week or so.

I got back to Brandi’s just in time to get Landon and his car seat buckled into the truck and we headed out to meet Bob & Maria at King Food.

Landon Napping on Dog Bed

We were a little worried because we had to wake Landon up from a very sound sleep and he was a little grumpy to start, but he cheered up real quick once we started driving.

BTW the bed Landon is napping on is actually Kitty’s dog bed. Landon loves to lay on it and watch TV, sometimes with Kitty right beside him.

For those just tuning in, Kitty is Lowell’s 105 pound Black Lab who dotes on Landon and is very protective of him. When anyone new comes over, Kitty wedges herself between them and Landon until Lowell or Brandi reassure her that it’s OK.

As I said we were kind of worried how Landon would be at the restaurant because he’s got 3 new teeth coming in and he’s getting over an ear infection, but he did great.

He ate good, even some of Jan’s Pan Fried Crispy Noodles and some of the vegetables with it.

He also had a great time making faces at himself in the mirror right behind his highchair.

Getting back to the house Landon played for a while, and then Jan and I gave him a bath. Then after Jan got him ready for bed, she held him in the recliner while he fell asleep watching Barney.

About this time I drove over to my client’s to close out the books for the year, before heading back to the rig for the the night.

One of my emails that I had waiting for me was the yearly stats from this blog. All I can say is WOW!

Last year we had a little over 56,000 visitors, while this year we did almost 133,000.

But even more amazing is that we have had visitors from six of the seven continents. How they found my blog in Africa or Asia, I’ll never figure out.

6 Continents Down

The only continent left is Antarctica.

Anybody know anyone working at one of the research stations down there? If so, tell’m to visit our blog so I can check off that last continent.

Of course I don’t know if I’d be able to see it anyway since they don’t even have Antarctica on their diagram.

Happy New Year!
