Last Full Yuma Rally Day . . .

Today was the last full day of the 2012 Western Gypsy Journal Rally in Yuma, AZ, and also the time for my last seminar of the rally called “10 Things Every RV’er Needs”. Running from 10:30 to 11:30, I guess it went well because we had people still hanging around asking questions up until noon when I had to go out front and man the front gate so Jan could attend a Pet First Aid seminar.

Then after Jan’s class was over, she came out to join me on the gate while I went back and brought us out hot dogs for lunch. When we got off at 2pm, we had planned to check out the Yuma Indoor Flea Market down the road, but decided to wait until Nick and Terry can go with us, probably on Saturday.

We spent the rest of the afternoon back at the coach, with Jan reading on her Kindle while I took a nap. Then about 5 pm we met up with Al and Adrienne and drove over to have dinner at Mi Rancho, another very good local Mexican restaurant that they had found.

This is Al and Adrienne’s first RV rally and they’re really excited with everything they’ve learned the last few days, so we spent the entire meal just talking RV’ing.

We finally got back to the fairgrounds a little before 7pm, just in time for the final round of door prizes, including a Sea Eagle Inflatable Kayak, and a Kindle. Then, with everything over, people pitched in to put away all the tables and chairs, leaving just enough out for the final coffee and donuts get-together tomorrow morning before everyone starts heading.

As usual at a Nick and Terry rally, we all had a great time and are certainly looking forward to the next one.

Although Nick and Terry, probably not so much.

Full Moons and Cactus Queens . . .

Well, today was certainly a busy day. I had three seminars to give –

Ten Things To Never Do with Your Computer.
Do’s and Don’ts of Computer Security.
Computer Q & A

They seemed to be well received, and I had a lot of questions, so people did seem to have a good time.

Yuma Seminar 2012

I have one more seminar to give tomorrow morning on 10 Things Every RV’er Needs. Unlike the first 3, this one is not really computer related. Like today’s Computer Q & A class, I haven’t done this one before so I’ll have to see how it goes.

My last class was from 2:30 to 3:30 so after it was over I took a short nap later in the afternoon since I didn’t get to bed last night until almost 3 am, and then had a 9 am first seminar.

One thing that took me so long last night was making the CD’s that I give away in the Computer Security class. I made these using both my desktop and my laptop, and while making a copy on the laptop, I heard a sudden “whoomp” and the CD tray flies open and shards of broken CD sail across the room.

I’ve had this happen a couple of times before, and it’s caused by a CD that fractures as it’s being spun at 10 to 15,000 rpm and comes apart. I haven’t had a chance to check to see if the CD drive still works. I’ll have more time for that after the rally is over.

Yuma Moon

As Jan and I walked over to the main hall I got  this great shot of the full moon rising over the RV’s. We were there for the big pizza party, and then later, the Cactus Queen Beauty Contest.

And believe me I’m using the term ‘Beauty’ very, very loosely.

As far as the pizza party, it’s amazing how fast Miss Terri and her helpers can serve the pizza. Tonight all 300 people got served in a little over 5 minutes. Wow!

Then it was time for the main feature, the 2012 Yuma Cactus Queen Beauty Contest.

And even our friend Al Cox got into the swing of things

Al as Cactus Queen

And here’s the entire group of pulchritudinous beauty.

The phrase “What has been seen, can not be unseen” comes to mind here.

Everybody seemed to have a great time tonight especially the guys up on stage.

Tomorrow is the last full day of the rally with a lot more great seminars on the schedule.
