Happy Anniversary to My Sweetie!
No, not that Anniversary. That one’s in September.
Although this is officially the blog for July 4th, most people, including Jan, will be reading it on July 5th.
No, this one is the one that Jan always forgets, but I never do. July 5th, 1967 is the date Jan and I met for the first time.
As I mentioned before, she was working at Florida Wonderland, a slightly seedy amusement park in Titusville, FL, with rides, animals, and a western town with daily gunfights.
Jan was one of the saloon girls at Miss Kitty’s Pleasure Palace,
while I had just been hired that day to do the animal acts at the Marine Life Aquarium right across the highway.
I had come down from Alabama to visit my Aunt and Uncle in Sanford, and then find a job for the summer. And after seeing an ad in the Florida Today paper I ended up in Titusville.
Several times a day I had to cross the road and bring back ice to keep the fish fresh that we fed to the porpoises, the elephant seal, and the alligator. And guess where the ice machine was?
The first time I went in I was immediately taken by this tall, long-legged beautiful redhead. I don’t have a photo from then, but here’s a photo from 8 years later. Still a tall, long-legged beautiful redhead.
Needless to say, I probably got more ice than I really needed. Bu it took me a couple of weeks to get her to go out with me. She said later she thought I was a “stuck-up college guy.”
But here it is 49 years later, and I’m still in love with my beautiful redhead.
Jan and I celebrated the holiday by watching a 4th of July family classic . . . Jaws. Well, it did take place over the 4th of July weekend, right?
Then after 3 hours of Jaws, bulked up from a 2 hour movie with an hour of commercials, we segued right into Jaws 2, for a total of 5 and a half hours of gory goodness.
I mean, ‘red’ is a 4th of July color, right?
BTW Roy Scheider’s, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” was ad-libbed.
I’ve added another category to Greg’s Favorite Apps. This one, Map Utilities, is the next one on the list.
Check it out.
And if you’ve got some favorites that aren’t on my list, let me know.
Happy 4th of July:
