I Know What The ‘Carrot’ Is . . .
We’ve got a busy week coming up. Tomorrow we’re meeting Brandi, Lowell, and Landon up in Katy at Astor Farm To Table on Mason Rd., near their house. We went there once before in their old location, but now they’ve moved to a bigger place right down the road. And they have a very interesting menu.
It’s a fusion of South African and Latin America food, with a twist on everything. You can check out their menu here. Astor Farm To Table Menu
Where else can you get an order of African Lamb or Goat Curry or a salad made with Buffalo Mozzarella? But you can also get things like Steak, Pork Chops, or Breakfast. So even Landon is happy.
But what I want to know is who has to milk the Buffalo to make the Mozzarella?
Then Monday Jan’s driving me into work and then heading up to the SH Tollway and Westpark area to meet a friend for lunch. On Tuesday, we’re meeting our friends Debi and Ed Hurlburt up in Conroe for lunch. After that, on Wednesday, Jan’s having lunch with an old friend from her working days. So she’ll be driving me into work that day too.
On Thursday Jan has a doctor’s appointment. Next up, on Saturday we’re meeting Janice and Dave Evans down here in Webster for lunch.
Whew!
So next Sunday will certainly be a needed day of rest
About 3:30 we headed down to Galveston to see Yakov Smirnoff at the 1894 Grand Opera. And as we were told, everyone had to wear a mask. It was the first time I’ve worn one in months, and I had forgotten how much I hate them.
And it seems most other people didn’t want to wear them either. So much so that before the show started a ‘mean’ lady was roaming the audience making people put their masks back on, or pull them up over their noses.
But as soon as the lights went down and the show started, the masks started disappearing again.
We didn’t get home until almost 10pm, so I’ll save talking about the show and dinner afterwards for tomorrow’s blog.
Thought you’d find this video funny. I don’t know what started the fight, but this young lady certainly finished it.
When I posted the stuff about the Glass Octopus the other day, I wondered about the ‘carrot’ inside the body.
Well, now I know what it is.
It’s the octopus’s digestive gland/organ and they can move it around in their body. But apparently they normally keep it vertical to make it harder to see them from above or below, helping to hide them from predators.
So now you know.
Thought For The Day:
Don’t judge a person for drinking and swearing. Judge the quiet, sober ones. Those are the ones that are up to something.
Well, That Was Disappointing . . .
About a month ago I ordered these flamingos for Jan’ Flamingo Flamboyance from a Facebook ad.
According to the ad, they were Made In The USA, and Shipped From California, unlike most FB stuff that usually seems to come on a slow boat from China, literally.
The shorter one is is 28” high and the taller one is 32”, so good size, too. And it would be a perfect addition to the yard.
The first Rut Roh! came 9 days later when I received a notice that the order had shipped . . . China, via China Post.
The second came about a week after that when I clicked on the ad again, and it had disappeared, or at least the flamingos had. There was something else being sold.
But since I was still getting tracking info as it crawled across China, I was somewhat mollified.
But then about a week ago, the entire company website just disappeared, but the tracking info said the birds were now in the US and in the hands of the Post Office, so maybe things were still OK.
Then yesterday, a package showed up in the mail. It was about 14” long and about 5” square, and it was half crushed. Not a good sign all around.
And it didn’t get any better, or any bigger when we opened the package. Inside was two smaller boxes, and inside those boxes was this.
For the record, they’re about 8” talll, and not metal, but some sort of resin. And broken, of course.
Well, $^%$#%
Unfortunately I’m not sure I have any recourse, but I’m going to talk to PayPal since it was paid for through them. Stay tuned.
I spent a good part of the day at work configuring and setting up a new camera surveillance system like this.
Sometimes Jennifer is working in the back and doesn’t hear the buzzer so this should take care of that problem. And let us monitor other areas too.
Though our other flamingo order fell apart we did get word that this one had arrived and was ready to be picked up.
This is Flamingo Frank and he’s about 18” high, and strangely enough we ordered him from Home Depot. Hope he gets along with all the others.
As I mentioned previously, tomorrow we’re seeing Yakov Smirnoff at the1894 Opera House down in Galveston and then having dinner at Saltgrass Steakhouse.
Can’t Wait!
